Meet Ayush Mohapatra
The Artist & The Changemaker
From a three-year-old with a brush to a changemaker inspiring thousands across India, this is the journey of Ayush Mohapatra.

Early Life & Beginnings.
Ayush Mohapatra was born in 2007 in the sacred temple town of Puri, Odisha, India — a land blessed by the spiritual aura of Lord Jagannath. His childhood was rooted in simplicity, tradition, and cultural richness. For the first 10 years of his life, Ayush grew up in Sambalpur, a city in Western Odisha, before his family moved back to Puri due to his father’s job transfer.
Even as a toddler, Ayush showed a unique curiosity toward art. He picked up his first brush at just 3 years old. While other children played with toys, Ayush played with colors. His notebooks, walls, and even the floors of his home often became his canvas. He didn’t come from a family of artists, and there was no formal training — only a deep inner calling.
Coming from a middle-class family, Ayush experienced the limitations that many young artists face. Expensive paints, canvas, and art classes were out of reach. Yet, this never stopped him. He used old papers, homemade brushes, and natural colors to express his imagination. Art, for Ayush, was not a hobby. It was his language, his refuge, and his soul’s expression.
During his school years, teachers and friends began noticing his extraordinary skills. Whether it was a school art competition or a festival decoration, Ayush’s work always stood out. His childhood was filled with silent practice, spiritual inspiration, and big dreams — dreams that one day, his art could mean something to the world.
This humble beginning laid the foundation for something far greater — a mission that would eventually inspire thousands across India and beyond.
The Journey Begins.
Ayush Mohapatra’s real journey as an artist took flight during one of the most difficult times in recent history — the COVID-19 lockdown. While the world paused, Ayush picked up his brushes and began experimenting with a bold and unexplored idea: Reverse Speed Painting.
With no access to professional tools or mentors, he trained himself to paint upside-down, using both hands, completing large 5-foot canvases in just a few minutes. He turned his small room into a stage, his canvas into a message board, and his art into an experience.

This wasn’t just painting — it was performance, meditation, and storytelling combined.
His dedication and innovation quickly caught attention. In 2021, at the age of 13, Ayush set a record in the India Book of Records by painting a reverse portrait of Lord Ganesha in just 5 minutes — using both hands simultaneously. It was a moment of pride, not just for him but for every child who had ever dreamed big from a small place.
From that point forward, his journey accelerated. What started as a quiet personal passion transformed into a public mission. He began receiving invitations to perform live on big stages. He painted in front of large audiences, on national television, at cultural festivals, and in government events — often completing meaningful paintings in less than 7 minutes.
Each live painting wasn’t just a show — it was a symbol of belief, a message for society, and an emotional experience for viewers. Whether painting Lord Jagannath, a girl seeking safety, or Mother Earth, Ayush made every stroke count.
But behind the lights and applause, his journey remained deeply personal. He never forgot the days when he couldn’t afford proper paint or canvas. That memory continues to shape his mission — to ensure that every child, no matter where they come from, has the right to express themselves through art.

Live Performances & Artistic Work.
What makes Ayush Mohapatra’s art unforgettable is not just how it looks — but how it feels. His work is not static. It moves. It breathes. It performs.
Ayush is a pioneer of Reverse Speed Painting in India — a unique style where he paints large, detailed artworks on 5-foot canvases, upside-down, using both hands simultaneously. And that’s not all — each performance is carefully synchronized with music that matches the emotion and theme of the painting.
As the music begins, Ayush steps onto the stage and starts painting — fast, focused, and fluid. Every stroke he makes is in rhythm with the sound — whether it’s spiritual chanting, emotional piano, or powerful Indian melodies. And when the music reaches its final note, Ayush turns the painting around, revealing a breathtaking image that leaves audiences stunned and inspired.
This signature moment — when the upside-down image becomes instantly clear — is not just artistic, but deeply emotional. Viewers gasp, cheer, and often shed tears, realizing the message Ayush has embedded in every color, every motion, every beat.

Whether on a school stage or a national platform, he carries one goal: to use his brush and voice to make people feel, think, and act.

Rooted in Devotion
This sacred photo at the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri symbolizes the divine inspiration behind Ayush’s journey. Before every painting, every stage performance, and every project, Ayush offers a silent prayer to Lord Jagannath. For him, art is not just expression — it’s worship. His belief is simple yet powerful: “When your purpose is pure, the universe flows through your brush.”
Through his devotion, Ayush stays grounded in gratitude and guided by blessings — making every creation a tribute to culture, compassion, and consciousness.
Inspiration & Beliefs.
Ayush Mohapatra’s creative journey is shaped by his deep connection to Indian spirituality, culture, nature, and human empathy. One of his greatest inspirations is Santoshi Maa, the goddess of satisfaction. From her, Ayush learned that true joy comes not from applause or awards, but from touching someone’s heart. Before starting any painting or project, he always asks himself:
“Will this bring someone peace? Will this inspire change?”
He draws immense inspiration from Lord Jagannath and Odisha’s cultural soul, often weaving divine symbols and sacred stories into his art. But Ayush’s inspiration isn’t limited to tradition—it grows stronger in the presence of nature, during quiet moments under trees, and while exploring new places. Every journey, every landscape, every tree or river he encounters becomes a muse, awakening a desire to protect the Earth and spread awareness.
Whether he’s painting in a village, performing on stage, or teaching children, Ayush holds one belief close:
Art is not just to be seen—it’s meant to be felt, remembered, and used to make the world better.

Social Impact & Community Work.
Empowering Lives, One Brushstroke at a Time
Ayush Mohapatra’s journey into social impact began not with a plan for fame, but from a deep emotional connection to the struggles of children who lacked support, guidance, and creative freedom. Inspired by the simplicity, strength, and silent stories of tribal and orphaned children, Ayush saw in them a reflection of his own childhood — one shaped by modest means, cultural roots, and the desire to give back.
His turning point came when he began teaching art to children at Utkal Balashram, a child care institution, at the age of just 14. What started as a Sunday volunteering activity quickly became a weekly ritual of hope and joy. Seeing the children’s eyes light up during art sessions moved Ayush deeply and made him realize that art wasn’t just a talent — it was a gift meant to be shared.
Ayush’s motivation grew stronger as he witnessed how even a small act — like handing a paintbrush to a child — could open doors to confidence, expression, and healing. He was inspired by the teachings of Santoshi Maa, the Mother of Satisfaction, who reminded him that true joy lies not in applause or attention, but in actions that bring peace to others.
That belief became the seed for the Ayush Art Foundation, which has since grown into a powerful grassroots movement. Through initiatives like:
-
"Let’s Create Artistic Planet" – using art for environmental awareness
-
“Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0” – planting trees in the honor of mothers
-
Free art education for tribal, orphaned, and underprivileged children
-
Workshops on social issues like gender, identity, and climate change
Ayush has touched the lives of 5,000+ children across Odisha and beyond.
His community work is not driven by recognition, but by purpose, empathy, and spirituality. Each project he undertakes is guided by one question: “Will this bring someone peace?” That simple thought continues to fuel his journey — reminding us all that even a single brushstroke can change the world.
"I don’t just teach art — I share a feeling, a purpose, and a voice to those who have been silenced."
